How a 16-county service area works

Pennsylvania licenses a home care agency at its office address and reviews the counties it serves; there are no "branch offices" in Pennsylvania home care. Our licensed office is in Harrisburg, and we recruit, screen, train, and schedule caregivers who live in each county we serve, so the person who arrives at your door is a neighbor, not a commuter. Every caregiver is a W-2 employee of It's Your Home Care, interviewed face to face, reference-checked, screened through the Pennsylvania State Police (and the FBI when required), cleared through ChildLine, TB-screened, and competency-tested before their first shift, as required by 28 Pa. Code Chapter 611.

Frequently asked questions

Do you really serve all 16 counties from one Harrisburg office?

Yes. Our licensed office is at 600 North 2nd Street in Harrisburg, and our caregivers live throughout the counties we serve, so care is delivered locally. Pennsylvania licenses home care agencies by office location, not by county; we are approved by the Department of Health to serve these counties and we schedule caregivers who live near each client. Response time for a first in-home consultation is typically fastest in the Capital Region (Dauphin, Cumberland, Perry, Lebanon) and within a few days in the outer counties.

Is It's Your Home Care a medical or non-medical agency?

Non-medical. We are licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Health as a Home Care Agency under 28 Pa. Code Chapter 611. Our caregivers help with personal care (bathing, dressing, toileting, mobility), meals, light housekeeping, medication reminders, companionship and respite. We do not provide skilled nursing, therapy, or medical treatment; if a physician has ordered those, we work alongside the home health or hospice agency providing them.

How do families pay for home care in Pennsylvania?

Most private-pay families pay by the hour from savings, income, or a long-term care insurance policy. Veterans and surviving spouses may qualify for VA Aid and Attendance. Adults who are financially eligible for Medicaid may qualify for the Community HealthChoices (CHC) waiver, and adults 18 to 59 with physical disabilities who are not Medicaid-eligible may qualify for the state-funded Act 150 Program. We accept all of these and can explain which fit your situation.

What is the minimum number of hours per visit?

Care plans are built around the client, and short visits can be arranged. Ask our care coordinator about current minimums for your county and schedule; hourly, overnight, weekend, and 24-hour coverage are all available depending on caregiver availability in your area.
