Why Camp Hill families call us

Camp Hill families usually call us when a parent who has lived in the same house for decades starts to need more help than a spouse or a nearby son or daughter can give. The borough is small and settled, with a median age of about 44 in the latest Census estimates, and many residents raised their children here and stayed. Often the call comes from a daughter in Hampden Township or Lower Allen who has been stopping by every evening and can no longer keep up, or from a husband who has been his wife's only caregiver through Parkinson's disease or dementia and needs a few afternoons a week to himself. Homes and streets in Camp Hill

Camp Hill is mostly two-story single-family homes on tree-lined streets, many of them decades old, with the bedrooms and full bathroom upstairs and a few steps up to the front door. Those houses are comfortable until someone has a new hip, a weak leg after a stroke or a habit of getting up at night. A large part of our work here is making that kind of house workable: a steady hand on the stairs at bedtime and in the morning, help in the shower, and a caregiver who stays overnight when the bathroom trips at 2 a.m. are the real risk. See overnight care.

Getting around is easy by West Shore standards. US 11/15 runs along the western and northern edges of the borough, and PA 581 passes along the south side, so appointments on the West Shore and in Harrisburg are a short drive. Our office on North 2nd Street is a few minutes away over the Market Street Bridge or the Harvey Taylor Bridge, which matters when a schedule changes on short notice.

Coming home from Holy Spirit and UPMC West Shore

Camp Hill sits closer to hospitals than almost any town we serve. Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center is on North 21st Street with a Camp Hill address, UPMC West Shore is a short drive west in Hampden Township, and Penn State Health Hampden Medical Center is in Enola. That closeness means short hospital stays and quick discharges, often with home health visits ordered and a family left to cover everything in between. Our caregiver can meet your parent at the house, help them settle, prepare dinner, give medication reminders from the discharge instructions and stay overnight for the first few nights. Nurses and therapists come from the home health agency the physician orders; we work alongside them. We are independent and not affiliated with Penn State Health or UPMC. 2. In-home consultation. Camp Hill is part of the Harrisburg area we cover most, so this is usually within one to two business days.
  3. Written care plan with the tasks, schedule and your parent's preferences.

Questions Camp Hill families ask us

Is there a home care agency near Camp Hill with caregivers for seniors?
Yes. Our licensed office is in Harrisburg, a few minutes across the Susquehanna, and our caregivers provide non-medical in-home care in Camp Hill and nearby Lemoyne, Wormleysburg and Hampden, Lower Allen and East Pennsboro townships. Elderly care here includes bathing and personal care, companionship, respite for a spouse, dementia care, overnights and 24-hour schedules. Call (717) 695-2704 to talk with a care coordinator.
How quickly can home care start in Camp Hill?
The in-home consultation is usually within one to two business days, and care can often begin soon after, especially when we hear about a hospital discharge early. Starting dates depend on the hours you need and caregiver availability, so call as soon as you know the plan and we will tell you honestly what we can staff.
Can a caregiver help my parent with the stairs in our Camp Hill house?
Yes. Caregivers walk alongside clients on the stairs, help with transfers in and out of bed and the shower, and can stay overnight for bathroom trips. At the consultation we look at the stairs and bathroom and may suggest a first-floor setup or a shower chair. We do not provide physical therapy; that comes from a home health agency.
Are you connected with Holy Spirit or UPMC West Shore?
No. It's Your Home Care is an independent home care agency licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and is not affiliated with Penn State Health or UPMC. Families can choose us for non-medical help at home, and we work alongside whichever home health agency the physician orders.
